PEDIATRIC CHINESE MEDICINE
Our Pediatric Specialist will use a variety of chinese modalities to treat conditions such as Respiratory, Digestive, Sleep, Behavioral, Skin Conditions, and Preventative care. The techniques used will include:
Shoni-Shin – is a japanese form of bodywork that makes use of small metal tools designed to bring qi to the surface, and stimulate specific acupuncture points. These tools are very relaxing and painless and do not penetrate the skin. This is the most common modality for children age 3 and under or for older children who show a fear of needles.
Acutonics – is a very effective modality that utilizes vibrational tuning forks to stimulate the acupuncture points and tap into the energy system without penetrating the skin. Kids love how this feels and sounds, great for infants and kids of all ages.
Pediatric Tui Na – is a form of Chinese massage that is tailored to the immature physiology of children. It is an ancient approach that stimulates the meridians and acupressure points for health maintenance and recovery.
Acupuncture – In children, acupuncture is used sparingly, but there are some situations when it is necessary. In young children there is NO needle retention; the needles are inserted and immediately removed. Most children are actually unaware of the fact that they have experienced acupuncture. This modality is more commonly used in children ages 5 and older, and only with their permission and participation.
Dietary Recommendations – The proper use of food is very important with children because of their immature digestive systems. A correct diet can make the difference in a child’s overall health.
Herbal Medicine – is the most commonly prescribed treatment in Oriental Medicine. Herbs work naturally to strengthen the bodily systems. For thousands of years, Asia’s children have safely taken herbal medications. The herbs used at this clinic are of the highest quality and are grown naturally. They are prescribed as either granules that dissolve into hot water or juice or in pediatric formulated tinctures. Herbs both treat and prevent illness. Because children are very sensitive to herbal products and supplements, a small dosage is usually enough to achieve desired results
Moxabustion – is a technique that involves burning an herb inside a “tiger warmer” tool and is then used to gently apply warmth to certain points of the body. Among a variety of benefits, this is very good for boosting the immune system.
